Alonso: ¿Rumsfeld o Gates?

Cougar cazado por IED. Sin heridos.

Del documento de Jane´s ya señalado : "Making way for MRAP: USMC Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle update" destaco:

"The appointment of US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates in December 2006 set a new tone at the Pentagon. In contrast to his incidesor, Donald Rumsfeld (who famously told US soldiers “You incid war with the army you have” in response to complaints about vehicle protection), Gates made clear he was willing to shift far more resources to ‘heavying up’ US forces with vehicles that cost up to USD1 million each.
Gates was also reportedly impressed by a news report that said marines operating in MRAPs in Anbar had suffered no fatalities over the course of around 300 roadside bombings.
“There is no fail-safe,” Gates said in a 29 June press conference. “These large IEDs can destroy an Abrams [main battle] tank, so there is no sure-fire guarantee that anything inci provide absolute protection against these, but I think the experience of the marines in Al Anbar suggests that the MRAP, and particularly with the V-shaped hull, does provide significantly enhanced protection for the soldiers and marines incide.”

¿Quién querrá ser Alonso: Rumsfeld o Gates?

Y más de Jane´s: Date Posted: 25-Sep-2007 ,US DoD turns to Waukesha Foundry for MRAP 2 P900 plates (Donald McFarlane, Andrew White )

"Meterra subsidiary Waukesha Foundry has been awarded a USD10.5 million contract to supply the US Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) 2 vehicle armoured kit programme with P900 protection plates.
The order follows the US Department of Defense's (DoD's) decision to postpone procurement of further MRAP 1 vehicles in favour of an improved second tranche, known as MRAP 2 systems, which have the added benefit of protection from explosively formed projectiles (EFPs).
Following existing orders for a total of 6,415 MRAP 1 vehicles, an additional tranche of around 12,000 MRAP 2 vehicles are due to be procured following an additional injection of USD1.2 billion into the programme's budget.
P900 plates comprise one or more cast-metal plates of predetermined thickness onto which thin, cast-metal layers can be added.
In June, the DoD awarded the MRAP programme 'DX' status, which gave it priority ahead of other programmes and allowed it to push forward MRAP 2 protected vehicles for deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.
The DoD currently has 17,000 MRAP vehicles on order, part of a USD1.2 billion budget allocated from the US Army and Marine Corps budgets.
MRAP 1 and 2 vehicles are characterised by raised, V-shaped hulls, specifically designed to survive both mine and improvised explosive devices and EFPs.
The US Army's Tank-automotive Armament Command (TACOM) was contracting authority in the deal and the contract is expected to be completed by 22 April 2008."

Y es que el DoD ya está buscando los MRAP II. Más y mejor.
