U.S. Air Force selects tanker EADS CASA A330 MRTT. La USAF selecciona el EADS CASA A330 MRTT.

The EADS-CASA A330 MRTT (Multirole Tanker Transport) has been selected by the US Air Force to substitute the KC-135 Stratotanker. A330 MRTT is a military version of the civilian A330 that includes a revolutionary in-flight Air Refuelling system.

The Spanish branch of the European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company (EADS CASA, Madrid, Spain) has been responsible of the development the new in-flight Air Refuelling Boom System (ARBS) for the plane. The industrial program offered by EADS-CASA makes Northrop Grumman the main contractor and implies the construction of a new factory in Alabama.

On January 2008, the Saudi MOD decided the acquisition of the A330 MRTT as the new air-to-air refuelling aircraft for its Royal Saudi Air Force as a result of the competition process started in early 2006. Previously, the Royal Australian Air Force, the UAE Air Force and the UK RAF had chosen it as their Strategic Tanker Aircraft.

The US decision consolidates the A330 MRTT as the most advanced and capable in the market. EADS CASA, responsible for the design and production of the MRTTs, positions as a key worldwide supplier in the field of tanking and transport aircraft.

El A330 MRTT (Multirole Tanker Transport) ha sido seleccionado por la Fuerza aérea de EEUU para sustituir a los KC 135 stratotanker. El A330 MRTT es una versión militar del A330 civil que incluye un sistema revolucionario de repostaje en vuelo.

La filial española de EADS-CASA ha sido la responsable del desarrollo del nuevo sistema de repostaje Air Refuelling Boom System (ARBS) para dicho avión. El programa industrial ofrecido por EADS-CASA hace de Nortrop Grumman el contratista principal e implica la construcción de una nueva factoría de ensamblaje en Alabama.

En enero de 2008, el Ministerio de Defensa Saudita decidió la adquisición del A330 MRTT como avión de repostaje en vuelo para su fuerza aérea. Previamente, la Real Fuerza Aérea Australiana y la Fuerza Aérea de los EAU lo habían escogido, y el Reino Unido lo designó como el preferido para su futuro avión de repostaje en vuelo.

La decisión estadounidense consolida al A33o MRTT como el más avanzado y capaz del mercado. EADS CASA, responsable de su diseño y producción se posiciona como el proveedor principal a nivel mundial en el campo de aviones de repostaje y transporte.
